UV mercury lamp is a discharge lamp that uses mercury as the light source to generate ultraviolet (UV) radiation. Mercury is sealed inside the lamp, and when an electrical discharge occurs, the mercury atoms become excited (absorb energy) and emit ultraviolet light at specific wavelengths. The lamp primarily emits UV light centered around wavelengths such as 254 nm and 365 nm, making it highly useful in industrial processes such as sterilization, curing, and exposure.
UV mercury lamps are known for their high UV radiation efficiency and relatively simple structure, making them cost-effective to produce. In particular, the 254 nm wavelength is highly effective in destroying bacteria and viruses, which is why these lamps are widely used for air and water disinfection. They also emit abundant UV light at 365 nm. Custom power ratings are available, ranging from 50 W/cm to 200 W/cm, and they are primarily used in coating, drying, curing, and printing processes involving thin coatings of less than 15 μm. These lamps are also widely applied in industries such as printing, PCB exposure, and adhesive curing.
